Title: Sound Hole Plate Thickness
Post by killin5 on Sep 1st, 2004 at 8:13am
I was wondering how thick the Sound hole reinforcement plate should be on a Tenor Uke. I just inlaid the sound hole trim and am about ready to start bracing the top.

I am using the sound hole reinforcement plate from the Hana Lima Ia kit. I just want to be careful and not add too much thickness to the soundboard.

Or should I be thinking about the soundboard’s total thickness around the sound hole once the plate has been added?

yo john...gee soundhole patch material is there to add reenforcement to the soundhole area to prevent imploding...so 1/16th thick is cool to provide support and not detract from total flexibility...a good alternate is to sandwich thin veneer so you can have a thin patch but and  the re-enforcement patch will do its job too!
