Title: Super Soft II
Post by Heidi on Mar 4th, 2010 at 2:27pm
Hi Everyone

I have a friend (guitar builder) using a chemical overnight bath "Super Soft" to put the KOA into, to soften before bending. I have not heard of this anywhere in our ukulele building world and I thought it was not needed. His KOA was very curly and he was sure that it would crack. I guess he paid quite a lot for it and was worried. Any thoughts out there? I don't think I would do this? I have not heard KOA being more difficult to bend than other woods. Guitar bending is easier as the angles are softer than ukulele bending.
He did end up with 3 fractures which were repairable.

Cheers
Heidi

Check out the Online Luthier Forum.  There's been a couple threads about super soft.  I don't recall if it was pro or con.
Ukulele Underground or Ukulele Cosmos have builder forums too where this was covered
