Bracing? Kasha, Fan, or X ?
May 6th, 2005 at 1:04pm
I am looking for feedback from those that have made enough ukes to have tried Kasha, fan, and X brace designs in their ukes.

What have you found, as far as tone and volume between the three. I know Kasha is popular with the group, but the other designs could be considerably faster to produce.

Apprciate sharing your experience.

Aloha Mark...sorry  along time coming!  I and some other builders also use a lattice type bracing ala modified Smallman or De Jonge. What I love about Kasha or Lattice bracings is that the deformation on the top plates are reduced to a minimum and the uke is still able to produce volumne and clarity. These methods free the top to move more as a unit. Bottom line is that theres so many ways to skin the proverbial cat that ya just gotta choose on that fits your needs and modify what doesnt. I still regularly hear some awesome fqn braced ukes that have been brought into my shop by other builders as well...ah..but I do love them assymetrical Kasha bracings.  laters    ukeman
