How to secure string ends with bridge pins?

Uke strings don't come with ball ends so how does one secure the ends if you are using bridge pins?

I thread the small strings through a small bone or wooden bead and then tie an overhand knot just to hold things together. On the larger strings do the same thing but tie something like a firgure eight knot behind the bead. Thread the strings up from the inside. This will hold the strings against the pins or if you want a very clean contemporary look just drill 1/16 holes and thread the beaded string up through the inside just as you will/would with the pins.
