can i paint on the sound board?

Hi Folks, I just order a kit and would like to have a picture on the sound board, can i use watercolor / oil paint / or pastel on the uke and then use the oil to bring out the grain after i paint to finish it? any suggesstions will be appreciated, thanks~!

Keep the paint thin, no 3D stuff, and make sure that the paint is completely dried (set) before you oil finish.
Test each colour on scrap wood . Let it dry for several days and oil the sample to see if anything runs or leaches out.
I suspect that acrylics will work but test them first.
