| MEDITATIONS ON A CLASSICAL GUITAR
The time was ripe for changes...here
in Oshawa, the maple leaves were afire with brilliant
reds and yellows, interspersed with bright oranges.
The chilled air was a definite reminder of the approaching
winter; quite a contrast from the sunny 85 degree
weather and refreshing trades that I had left behind
on Oahu. So , indeed , I was here in Oshawa with the
opportunity to learn from the guidance and experience
of Luthier Sergei de Jonge, his construction techniques
of Lattice bracings on the Classical Guitar.
The similarities between the " Bossman "
Richard Schneider of Kasha/Schneider notoriety and
" Guru " Sergei de Jonge are totally blatant.
Both..artists foremost and craftsmen alike...tuned
to the same note...on a mission to simply make the
guitar better..period. A bold yet simple statement
and the ingenuity and perserverance to follow this
idiom through...day after day; a life's choice.What
sets them apart is what they hold in common which
is the willingness to share their experiences and
techniques to others. The guitars that they create
speak for themselves. No doubt , the bar once again
has been raised.
